Fireplace Mantle

A Custom fireplace mantle had eluded this client for a long time. Specifically, she envisioned a striking faux beam fireplace mantle, but her fireplace presented a unique challenge: a significant depression in the brickwork. She wanted the faux beam to gracefully follow the contours of this depression, a detail that proved difficult to achieve with standard mantle designs. However, undeterred, we embraced the challenge and crafted a custom piece from beautiful maple wood, carefully designed to meet her precise specifications. Maple was chosen not only for its inherent strength and stability, crucial for supporting the fireplace mantle, but also for its smooth grain and ability to accept stain beautifully, allowing us to perfectly match the existing décor. Therefore, if you’re looking for a custom piece, consider the beauty and versatility of maple.

Client’s Vision for Her Fireplace Mantle

Furthermore, the client’s vision was paramount. We understood the importance of creating a custom fireplace mantle that seamlessly integrated with her home’s aesthetic. Consequently, to ensure a flawless fit for this unique fireplace mantle, the final adjustments were made on-site at her home. First, we meticulously templated the fireplace depression, transferring those precise measurements to the maple mantle. Then, this allowed us to make the final cuts with pinpoint accuracy, guaranteeing that the faux beam would follow the contours of the brick perfectly, creating a seamless and visually stunning result. Ultimately, this on-site customization ensured that the fireplace mantle looked as if it was always meant to be there, becoming an integral part of the surroundings rather than an afterthought.

Moreover, the finishing touches were just as important as the construction of the custom fireplace mantle. The client had a beautiful clock above the fireplace, and she wanted the fireplace mantle to complement it perfectly. Thus, we meticulously matched the stain of the clock, applying it to the maple wood with careful attention to detail. Subsequently, after achieving the perfect color match, we applied three coats of high-quality polyurethane. We then wet sanded between each layer to create a smooth, durable, and lustrous finish. As a result, this painstaking process not only enhanced the natural beauty of the maple wood but also ensured that the fireplace mantle would withstand the test of time. In short, this attention to detail is what makes our work stand out.

Quality Construction in Every Custom Mantle

Additionally, our commitment to quality extends beyond the visible surface of the work we do. We Build all of our faux beam fireplace mantles, including this one, using hidden loose tenon joinery. This traditional technique creates exceptionally strong and stable connections, while also eliminating the need for visible fasteners. For example, you can see another example of loose tenon joinery on this Fireplace Rehab Project. Because of this we get a clean elegant look that showcases the craftsmanship. This allows the beauty of the wood to shine through. Indeed, this commitment to detail and quality is what sets our custom fireplace mantles apart. So, when you choose us for your fireplace mantle needs, you’re choosing quality craftsmanship.
