Cabinet Hinges

Hinges are a small detail that make a big difference in how your cabinets look and work. Here’s a quick breakdown of the main types we use and when each one makes sense.

European (Concealed) Hinges

The modern standard. These are hidden when the door is closed and offer three-way adjustment so doors can be dialed in perfectly after installation. Soft-close versions are the most popular. Best for frameless or modern face-frame cabinets.

Semi-Concealed Hinges

Part of the hinge shows when the door is closed. Common on traditional face-frame cabinets. More affordable than full European hinges and easier to install on many older cabinets.

Butt Hinges

The classic visible hinge. Strong and simple. Often used on traditional or furniture-style cabinets where the hinge is meant to be seen.

Youngdale self-closing cabinet hinge

Youngdale Hinges

A practical, more affordable alternative to European hinges. Self-closing, works on both face-frame and frameless cabinets, and easier to install than full cup hinges in many cases.

Which One Should You Choose?

It depends on the cabinet style, whether you want the hinges hidden, and budget. On most of our custom work we use European soft-close hinges because they look clean and adjust easily. On some traditional jobs we’ll use semi-concealed or butt hinges to match the design.
