Client reached out seeking a designer to create a custom built in adult bunk bed. After our consultation, it was clear that the design needed to be exceptional. They provided several pictures, each showcasing a feature they admired, and asked if I could incorporate all of them into the final design. Below are the results:
Planning the built in bunk bed
We initiated the process with a meticulous 3D rendering of the design, ensuring that every single detail was given thorough consideration. The critical spacing necessitated a room drawing to confirm that the stairs would fit under the window sill. In the image above, the bunk bed is visible through the bedroom window, highlighting our attention to detail. Our collaboration via Google Meet allowed us to meticulously review and enhance the specifics of the design, while respecting the clients time.
I ensured that each level of the built in bunk bed is equipped with a reading light and electrical outlets with USB charging ports. The custom stair treads seamlessly match the rest of the stairs in the house. Furthermore, I’ve installed shiplap on the walls of both levels. You’ll notice the planks going in opposing directions to perfectly complement other areas in the house. To add a finishing touch, we’ve also incorporated a custom welded guard rail and three 22-inch drawers with soft-closing slides.
Furthermore, we increased the room’s storage capacity by equipping this built in bunk bed with three deep drawers and two expansive areas equipped with adjustable shelves.
Building the design
We prebuilt all the framing in our shop from the measurements of the drawing. Then assembled the parts for a test fit and disassembled for transport and reassembly in the clients home. We did this in an effort to minimize our presence as they work from home. You can see the build is very robust and framed like a house would be. After framing we applied sheetrock to keep the built-in look and for long-term durability. This built in bunk bed is starting to come together.
The exceptional results delighted the client. The custom-built bunk bed exceeded their expectations.
