We took a dated brick fireplace and the bar next to it and made one wall out of it. Stacked slate, a custom-cast concrete hearth, a cherry mantel cut to look reclaimed. Spring, Texas. Same shop that builds the cabinets.

What we changed

  • Pulled the old brick face
  • Stacked slate in mixed grays, wrapped onto the bar so the two pieces stop looking like roommates
  • Custom-cast concrete hearth, gray wash so it doesn’t fight the stone
  • Faux-reclaimed cherry mantel — hardwood, distressed, knots left in

What a fireplace job usually includes

  • Demo of the existing face (and sometimes the hearth)
  • New stone, tile, or brick veneer
  • New or rebuilt hearth
  • Custom mantel (we build those)
  • Optional: wrap a bar, media wall, or adjacent cabinetry so it doesn’t look bolted on later

Not every job is a full rebuild. Some people just want a new mantel and a clean surround. Say that when you call.

This house

Clients wanted the fireplace to be the thing you look at when you walk in, not the leftover 90s brick with a TV fighting it. The bar stayed. The slate tied it in. They use the room.
